Hyderabad: In a rise in Omicron cases, Telangana on Wednesday reported 14 new infections bringing the state’s score to 38, a top health official said.
Of the new cases, 12 were detected among passengers coming from other countries as ‘at risk’, while two passengers from ‘at risk’ countries also tested positive for the new variant of Covid-19.
According to Director of Public Health Dr G. (*14*) Rao, the results of the genome sequence test of four more samples are awaited.
The total number of Omicron cases under pamphlets from countries other than “endangered” countries has risen to 31. Only six cases were reported among passengers from “risk countries”.
The health authorities on Tuesday detected the first local case of Omicron when a contact of the positive case was found infected.
A total of 9 381 passengers arrived at Hyderabad Airport from 1 December to 1 December from 10 “risk countries”. Of them, 259 arrived on Wednesday. (*38*) of those who turned up on Wednesday were found Covid-positive and their samples were sent for genome sequencing.
Health authorities at Hyderabad airport are conducting RT-PCR tests on two per cent of passengers coming from other countries as ‘at risk’. According to the center’s guidelines, they are allowed to go home even if they test Covid positive. However, their samples are sent for genome sequencing. If they test Omicron positively, the authorities are locating them based on the address they provided upon arrival at the airport.
Meanwhile 182 new Covid cases were reported in the state on Wednesday, which raised the cumulative score to 6.80,074.
A total of 196 cases were recovered during the past 24 hours, bringing the recovery rate to 98.87 percent. Health officials said 3,610 cases were under treatment / isolation.
