Telangana: Ganesh Chaturthi festivities begin with traditional fervour
In Telangana, Ganesh Chaturthi festivities began today across the state with traditional fervour. The COVID-19 protocols could not dampen the spirit of festivities and celebrations in Hyderabad. People installed the Ganesh Idols at their homes and offered special prayers on the commencement of the Ganesh Navaratris as per the traditions.
However, the Government and the authorities have already advised people not to celebrate at community level due to COVID-19 situation. In Hyderabad, people thronged to have glimpses of Maha Ganapati at Khairatabad where organisers set up a hug idol as per the practice. A huge laddu of 1100 kg has also been offered.
Meanwhile, Telangana High Court directed the state government not to allow idols of Lord Ganesh, made from plaster of Paris, to be immersed in Hussainsagar lake in Hyderabad. The court has also asked the state government to construct special rubber dams for the immersion of eco-friendly idols.
Meanwhile, the number of mud idols has gone up with government departments and NGOs intensifying campaign in favour of eco-friendly idols.
