A war of words has broken out over Victoria's purpose-built quarantine facility - which has had little use since it opened in February.

Experts say Victoria may have reached its COVID-19 peak as the Opposition calls for isolation requirements to be scrapped.

There were 8,153 new cases reported in the state yesterday and just 401 people are in hospital due to the virus.

There is little demand for the Mickleham quarantine facility, which has housed close to 700 people since February with just 200 unvaccinated travellers.
